I can’t find “Hey Baby” by Ragen Fykes from DCIHF anywhere on youtube which is kinda saddening. It’s a pretty pivotal part of the album on some of that ‘artist shit’ because i basically have ALWAYS wanted to have an arbitrary slow long on a rap album. Like a full on ballad. It just so happens that the song really fits the theme of the album so its not so arbitrary.
With regards to the singing on the album this song is the only thing that I didn’t write on the album. So all the hooks you hear are me and there are shitty reference takes littered around my hard drive that I sit and chuckle at from time to time.
Ragen wanted me to sing on this with her and when I said no she opted instead for me to do the whole sexy baritone thing on the bridge where my man Nate kills the guitar solo. I didn’t like the takes I laid down so i opted instead to just not fuck up homies guitar licks and let it breath.
This is an incredible song and I wish people would talk about it more. Sure I’m biased because it’s on my album BUT I’m not on the song at all. Its kind of a commissioned work that I asked a few friends to do in order to close the album out.
Take a second and give it a spin. Tell me this shit isn’t all kinds of fantastic.
